Presentation: Linked Column Frame as a Potential Braced-Free Steel Framing Solution

When: Thursday 19th April 2012

The presentation discussed the linked column frame (LCF), which has been developed in the USA as an option for a braced-free structural steel framing system intended for rapid return to occupancy earthquake performance level. This structural system consists of moment frames for gravity loads and a combination of moment frames together with closely spaced dual columns interconnected with bolted links for the lateral system. The links are sacrificial and intended to be replaced following a design level earthquake. Experimental evaluation of the linked column and numerical simulations of the system level performance have been conducted, with current efforts being on the development of practical design guideline

The name of the speaker is Associate Professor Peter Dusicka from Portland State University. He is steel researcher with an interest in seismic design.
