Abstract
A technical committee was established to review the New Zealand Concrete Structures Standard and develop NZS 3101:2006 Amendment 3. The terms of reference of amendment 3 were primarily to address recommendations of the Canterbury Earthquake Royal Commission and the SESOC interim design guidance document. The proposed amendments have resulted in significant changes to the following areas:
- Member elongations
- Support details for precast floor and stair units
- Wall design and detailing (particularly minimum reinforcement, axial load limits, transverse reinforcement and detailing, and coupled wall systems)
The rationale behind the proposed major amendments will be presented and areas where ongoing refinement and research is required.

The presentation will be followed by an open Q&A session with several members of the NZS 3101 technical committee.
