Abstract:
Advances in knowledge and changes in structural steelwork procurement practices, particularly the advent of structural steelwork from low-cost countries, requires changes in the design, fabrication and erection standards to reflect these realities. In this presentation SCNZ Manager Alistair Fussell will overview several joint Australia/New Zealand standards development projects covering: Fasteners, Structural Steels, Fabrication and Erection, Composite Structures and Bridge Design – Steel and Concrete.
In addition, an industry compliance guideline project that will complement the fabrication and erection provisions in the Steel Structures Standard NZS 3404 will be discussed. This project will include the use of alternative materials and ensuring/demonstrating compliance of fabricated steelwork – regardless of origin.
