PRESENTATION – Seismic Behaviour of Rocking Braced Frames

When:
5:30pm Tuesday 21st May 2013

Abstract:

This joint presentation will cover recent Canadian shake table research into the seismic behaviour of rocking steel braced frames and will conclude with a New Zealand implementation of this low damage technology; a 15 storey apartment building currently under construction in Wellington. Of particular emphasis in the talk is the significance of higher mode effects which can dominate the response of such seismic load resisting systems.

The speakers include Lydell Weibe a PhD candidate from the University of Toronto and soon to be Assistant Professor at McMaster University in Canada and Craig Stevenson, a Technical director of Aurecon with over 32 years’ experience in structural and seismic engineering.
