When – Thursday 28th July 2016 //
About the Presentation:
This presentation will outline a programme of research into reinforced concrete currently being undertaken in New Zealand. Of the nearly 200 recommendations arising from the Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission (CERC) there were numerous recommendations which related to reinforced concrete buildings, and of those several were specifically applicable to concrete walls and diaphragms. These specific recommendations led to a programme of research funded by MBIE and made up of 5 individual projects, which are primarily being undertaken at the Universities of Auckland and Canterbury. The five projects are as follows:
• Improved detailing for concrete walls requiring high ductility capacity, led by Ken Elwood
• Detailing for walls which are lightly reinforced, and minimum reinforcement requirements, led by Rick Henry
• Behaviour of walls subjected to bi-axial earthquake forces, led by Stefano Pampanin
• Buckling of concrete walls and buckling of reinforcement within walls, led by Rajesh Dhakal
• In-plane force demands and performance of diaphragms, led by Des Bull
This presentation will give a brief synopsis of each project, and the expected outcomes, many of which are intended to be implemented into NZS 3101.
