Abstract
Considers some mistakes found in recent structural reviews and examines the learning potential from them. The mistakes discovered are discussed together with brief anonymised description of the building/structure type involved. Repeated mistakes are listed.
Learning potential is considered by examining the requirements needed to learn and how structural engineers can learn from mistakes.
Learning from our own mistakes is powerful but can be costly and painful. It is easier and wiser to learn from the mistakes of others.
Before learning from mistakes, we need to know about them. That means that we need to share information that we have about mistakes be those our own or by others.
Suggestions on how we can learn from mistakes are made.
