Abstract
Sabina Piras will be discussing the replacement of the Idaho Avenue Pedestrian Overcrossing in Santa Monica, California. The bridge is in a high-profile location; thus, a unique signature structure was chosen by the public for replacement. The replacement bridge was constructed on the side of a bluff slope that is severely eroded, which presented geographical challenges in a high seismic zone. This presentation will highlight the design alternatives, environmental and geometric constrains, and design challenges.
