Abstract
The use of timber in construction is growing rapidly throughout the world, particularly in the areas of mid-rise and high-rise developments. Even though New Zealand has been fairly advanced in timber construction compared to many countries, it is still very much in its infancy. Greg will be sharing information on how and where screws can be used in the design of timber connections, the various design considerations, applications and examples, and how design differs between NZS3603 and the Eurocode. Also, information will be provided on the newly released publication on designing connections according to NZS3603 using SPAX screws with values obtained from testing in New Zealand timbers, and possible implications for the new NZS1720.
