Abstract
The ongoing international alignment of Technical Standards in Australasia offers increasing opportunity for local companies to specify and utilize innovative technology, such as High Strength Friction Grip Tension Control Bolts (TCB’s). The use of TCB’s is common in the UK, Europe, North America and Asia and presents an opportunity for local specifiers in Australia and New Zealand to minimise risk and benefit from the many installation advantages.
This evening presentation is designed to assist you to manage risk by improving procurement and compliance outcomes including duty of care under WHS for these safety critical fasteners. The presentation will include discussion on code requirements, in particular with regard to installation and what engineers, constructors and erectors need to know. TCB’s are quick, safe and easy to install using electric shear wrenches which do not require calibration. Therefore, neither the tool
or operator has significant influence on the preload applied. Suggestions on how we can learn from mistakes are made.
Some of the Presentation Topics include:
• Typical application and Visual Inspection
• Global Trends and Productivity Gains
• Vibration Resistance
• Coating Technology
• Health & Safety Advantages
Biography
Arnie Glausiusz, Arnie represents Tension Control Bolts Ltd the designer & manufacturer of the most efficient High Strength Friction Grip/Pre-loaded bolting system used in steel construction. Arnie expertise is primarily related to preloaded assemblies, high strength TCBs, the installation tools ‘shear wrenches’ & Greenkote® corrosion protection. Arnie’s primary role includes providing consulting engineers and fabricators with design & technical training and liaising with many industry and sector groups. Arnie also has a broad range of construction experience on site with steel erectors – training erectors in best practices & dealing with challenges on site in bridges, stadia, high rise, towers, piling, rail & nuclear applications.
Prior to joining TCB Ltd most of Arnie’s engineering & construction experience related to ‘heavy’ lifting and movement of machinery.
Apart from bolting & engineering matters; Arnie’s interests include the preservation of heritage structures; and he is the proud owner of a ‘listed’ property built in 1657 and in need of some attention.
