Abstract
Construction Grouting and Sika
The effective grouting of structures and plant is often misinterpreted in the stages between design and installation. Large scale static elements have different performance requirements to vibration and machinery. The risk of incorrect grout selection, poor design and installation practice is enormous and often underestimated. The ramifications have serious implications on time, cost and even risk to life.
To help understand the selection process between grout technologies and some fair and acceptable minimum expectations, the communication through all levels should be transparent, open and honest. This could include early engagement between several parties on any given project, to ensure that safe and efficient processes can be agreed upon implicated and recorded.
In this session we will touch on some of the classifications, discuss properties of grouts, and address some ‘live’ examples. The goal is to provide helpful guidance to equip attendees with some practical ways to achieve defined roles and agreed outcomes.
Biography
Reuben Reeves
Market Field Manager – Refurbishment & Strengthening at Sika (NZ)
Since joining Sika at the end of 2009 as a member of the Technical Sales Team, Reuben has been involved on many Projects, from significant Infrastructure, such as the Waterview Connection Project in Auckland, right through to large scale commercial and residential construction.
With a background in contracting, initially building, foundations and multi storey structures, later progressing to specialist applications in construction grouting, concrete repair and protection as well as flooring, Reuben has been hands on involved with many varied aspects of the industry over the past 22 years.
Increased development across a growing NZ economy has identified a worrying shift in defective reinforced concrete, from older existing stock to structures under construction and recently completed. This change has highlighted possible gaps in understanding the importance of fundamental elements being selected and the execution of many basic but key components in concrete construction.
Since mid-2015 Reuben has been responsible for Refurbishment and Strengthening at Sika New Zealand and is based in Auckland.
