This talk will be an overview of some of Richard Harris' timber design projects in the UK. It will include design and construction of many innovative structures throughout the UK, over a 25 year period. The materials range from roundwood through traditional timber to long-span glulam. The structures include long-span roofs, glulam arches, the Globe Theatre in London, and several award-winning gridshells.
Until recently, Richard was a Technical Director with Buro Happold, consulting engineers, in charge of most of their timber projects. He has recently taken up the post of Professor of Timber Engineering at the University of Bath. In his new role at the University of Bath, his research interests include sustainability, metal-free connections and tall timber buildings.
