PRESENTATION – “Conceptual Design – Case Studies in the Lifetime of Structures”

We were pleased to announce Prof. Hugo Corres Peiretti as our presenter in October 2014.  Prof. Corres is one of the keynote speakers at the annual NZ Concrete Industries Conference and was touring the country afterwards courtesy of Golden Bay cement.

Abstract:

Conceptual design is the first step to any good design. The study of four different examples will show the conceptual design in different projects.

Case studies:

  • New Terminal T4 at Madrid Barajas,
  • The Tajuña Bridge,
  • Widening of the Existing Los Santos Bridge from 12,00 to 24,00 m
  • Demolition and Reconstruction of the La Toja Bridge.

Bio:

Hugo Corres Peiretti graduated as a Civil Engineer in 1977, and in 1981 obtained his PhD, both from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He is also a Doctor Honnoris Causa from the Technical University of Bratislava in 2002. Hugo is a Full Professor of Structural Concrete and Conceptual Design at the School of Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, since 1994. He is fib Deputy Presidium, and a former President of ACHE, Spanish Structural Concrete Scientific Association. Professor Corres was a member of the Project team of Eurocode 2; Concrete Structures; a member of fib Special Activity Group 5, for Model Code for Concrete Structures 2010; member of several Spanish Codes Committees; author of several articles and books; Founder and President of FHECOR Ingenieros Consultores, S.A, since 1979; and designer of many concrete and steel bridges and of a large number of major building.
