Abstract

The B201 development encompasses a significant refurbishment of the North and Eastern wings of the University of Auckland's School of Social Sciences building and includes a new feature Atrium structure. Ultimately it will be home to Education and Social Work teaching programs and staff accommodation as well as the Faculty of Arts.

The project involves the seismic retrofit of the existing concrete building, façade replacement, building services upgrade, internal fitout, various extensions/additions and a new timber atrium.

The presentation will cover the unique design and construction monitoring aspects of this project:

• Adaptive re-use, whole-of-life carbon assessment, and Green Stars
• Analysis of the existing structure
• Retrofit design of the existing structure
• Atrium roof structure analysis techniques and construction staging
• Atrium glulam member design
• Contractor collaboration during CM
